To dive Padangbai, we need to drive an hour from Amed but it is worthy the detour because of a very special dive site: the Macro Jetty! Originally built to receive the ferry boats that run between Bali and Lombok, the Padangbai terminal was never open due to a default in its design. The jetty wasn’t lost for everyone! It became a famous fishing spots for locals, a shelter for lots of marine life and a paradise for photographers!
Don’t expect to see reefs there are almost none there. But the numerous pillars of the jetty have started to be colonized by a lot of creatures such as Frogfish, Pipefish, Trumpet and Pufferfish, Blennies and Gobies, Batfish and millions of juvenile fishes who find shelters here. Bring your camera and enjoy the unique and weird marine life of this very peculiar dive site.
There are lots of dive sites available in Padangbai. But apart from the jetty, you will need a boat to access them. Dive Padangbai’s Blue Lagoon where shallow reefs meet deeper sandy slopes. Lots of nice creatures can be found there from macro forms to bigger pelagic.
