Buoyancy control is by far one of the most important skills a diver can master. If you haven’t understood all its subtilities yet, then the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty course will guide you through it. Achieving perfect buoyancy control will help you in many ways underwater and make your dives so much more enjoyable.
First of all, you get more relaxed while diving and less tired afterward. You start to move more efficiently and effortlessly during your dives. You usually carry less weights making it easier to move. Second, you greatly improved you air consumption underwater and therefore your dives last longer. By controlling your movements and your position, you also reduce the risks of damaging fragile aquatic life, stirring up the bottom, damaging your gear or even hurting yourself. You can observe more easily the marine life as you won’t scare the fish with erratic movements. You also can get safely closer to the bottom to search for macro life forms. Finally, if you are looking at taking pictures underwater, perfect buoyancy control is a “must have” skill so your subject is in the frame and focused.
So many reasons why you should improve your buoyancy control and even master it. And what a better way of doing so than by signing up for the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty course.
What will you learn?
During the Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty course, you will start by reviewing first the physics of diving and why we need to adjust buoyancy as we go down, up and as our tank empties. You will be reminded on how to use your Buoyancy Control Device as well as your lungs and breathing to compensate for changes of buoyancy. Your Instructor will also go over when to perform a weight check and talk about weight distribution.
In the water, you will start by conducting a weight check to determine what is the proper amount of weights you need to carry. You will be working on your positioning to become as streamline as possible. Techniques such as visualization and weight distribution will help you with this.
During the dive you will work on fine-tuning your buoyancy by hovering in different positions and at different depths. The PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty is usually lots of fun underwater as we add games to help you tuning your skills. So we might ask you to limbo, slalom, pass through hoops, knock things down with your nose and so on.
You will be working on your breathing control with your Instructor. It will help you understand how the way you breathe affects your buoyancy. Improving your buoyancy and your breathing control usually helps divers to reduce greatly their air consumption. You will then be able to dive longer, more relaxed, effortlessly and respectfully.
Where will you dive?
Amed offers perfect conditions for the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty course. It has numerous shallow bays with calm waters and sandy bottoms. Therefore you can practice all you want without fearing harming aquatic life or injuring yourself. We start from the beach so you can fine-tune your buoyancy in shallow and deeper waters. Once you get the hang of it then move towards our reefs to search for macro critters.
To complete the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty course, you need 2 open water dives with your Instructor.
