AMED

Amed is located on the North-eastern coast of Bali at about a 2 and a half hour drive from Denpasar airport. It is a quiet area perfect to relax and for those who want to take a break from the busy South of Bali.

It is becoming more and more popular for its remarkable succession of small bays and black sand beaches which makes it a paradise for the nature lovers and photographers. Those calm and shallow bays are perfect heavens for swimming and the fringing reefs offer great opportunities for snorkelling and diving.

From most of its coastline you will get an incomparable view on the Mount Agung, the giant close-by volcano which culminates at over 3100m high. Sunset pictures at Jemeluk Bay of the sun falling down in between the various volcanoes of Bali is a “must do” in this area and will leave you with unforgettable memories of your holidays.

Amed is still a small fishermen village where time slows down and culture and traditions are still much present today. Local fishing boats, the jukung, go out fishing in the morning and evening in a parade of colourful sails. Farmers cultivate rice in terrace on the slope of the volcano and hills or make salt on the beach using traditional techniques. Rice terraces nearby Amed are amazing spots to capture a shot of the local life of Bali.

The area has also numerous temples where the Hindu population go praying every week. Processions with musicians, women, men and children in their most colourful traditional outfits are often seen along the roads leading to the temples, you will surely see this during your stay in Amed. Religious ceremonies on the beach around full and new moon time are quite incredible to witness and local Balinese would be very glad to share their traditions with you.

There are numerous activities to do in the area apart from water sports. Amed is also a great starting point for those who want to climb the mounts Agung and Batur or continue their trip onto Lombok. Have a look at our activities page and contact us for more details or bookings.
